Dear Madam,

Withdraw Disciplinary Charge on UM Student Representative Immediately

We/I, ______________________ from ______________________, oppose the action of University Malaya (UM) authority for charging Tan Tiong Yih under Universities and University Colleges Act (UUCA) with the reason of faking a medical certificate for his absence of a constitutional course on the eve of campus election nomination day.

2) We/I strongly feel that the disciplinary charge should be withdrawn because Tan Tiong Yih was a student representative that was elected by all the UM students. His representation and qualification should not be questioned or challenged by the university authority. All the student matters within campus should enjoy their autonomy.

3) As the oldest and leading university in Malaysia, UM should set a good example for other university to follow by creating a mature democratic space for students to participate and respecting student autonomy. This can improve student’s critical thinking and regain the public confidence on our tertiary education.

4) We/I urge that UM authority:

a) to withdraw disciplinary charge from Tan Tiong Yih immediately.
b) restore his qualification as student representative unconditionally
c) to respect the student autonomy and stop the intimidates on university students.

Yours faithfully,

______________
